Even if you are building a small and shallow pond, the excavation of a pond could be classed as an engineering operation which could require planning permission.
Obviously, the length of time to install a pond will vary on the size and complexity. A rough timeframe we will give is from 1 day to 2 weeks, but it can obviously be more.
A usual garden pond will be around 46cms or 18 inches deep, however, if you are looking for a koi pond or a pond with larger fish, we would advise 90cms or 3 feet.
With all ponds, we would recommend regular maintenance to keep the pond clean and fresh, with small ponds we would suggest a complete overhaul to remove dirt and debris every five years, while large ponds need thorough cleaning every 10 years.
